New Book by Interlex CEO Rudy Ruiz wins First Place in two categories at the 2014 International Latino Book Awards

sevenfortherevolutioncover(San Antonio, July 9th, 2014) – The International Latino Book Awards were recently announced during the 2014 American Library Association Convention. Interlex Communications CEO Rudy Ruiz’s book, Seven for the Revolution, won two First Place awards, one Second Place and one Honorable Mention. The book received First Place in Best Popular Fiction and the Mariposa Award for Best First Book – Fiction. Seven for the Revolution also won Second Place for Most Inspirational Fiction Book and Honorable Mention for Best Cover.

“I am honored to have been recognized for my writing,” said Ruiz. “But most of all I hope that the awards help shed more light and compassion on the subjects of my book: Latino immigrants, their dreams and their current plight. I hope people on the fence in the immigration debate read the book and that it helps humanize their approach to this urgent human rights crisis in our nation.”

Inspired by his upbringing by Mexican immigrant parents, and his career dedicated to public policy concerning Latinos and their place in America, Ruiz brings audiences his fiction debut, Seven for the Revolution. Through seven fictional humanizing stories, this collection of short fiction from the past, present and future gives readers of all backgrounds a deeper and more empathetic understanding of the Latino immigrant experience in America.  Ruiz challenges readers to rethink their views and prioritize the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

Past winners of the International Latino Book Awards include many of the best-known Latino authors including Isabel Allende, Denise Chavéz, Paulo Coelho, Gabriel García Márquez, Oscar Hijuelos, Mario Vargas Llosa, Pablo Neruda, and Victor Villaseñor.

In Ruiz’s eyes, his writing synergistically complements his advocacy, cause-related and socially conscientious multicultural marketing work over the past two decades at Interlex Communications. “Our mission at Interlex has always been to help our clients make a positive impact in the lives of diverse audiences. I hope to do the same thing through my writing.”
